Methodism in Wolstanton

The first Methodist Church in Wolstanton was built in 1813 and over the following 193 years the village has seen the presence of a number of Methodist Churches.

The three main traditions of Methodism - Wesleyan, Primitive and New Connexion- all built chapels and school rooms in the community. All of them offered worship, education and care.

In 1932 nationally the various strands came together to form the one Methodist Church of Great Britain. In Wolstanton over a period of time all the traditions came together worshipping and serving on the current site on Grosvenor Placein the High Street as Wolstanton Methodist Church.

1979 saw the last major redevelopment – the demolition of a former church, the creation of a car park and the adaptation of another building to create the present church - as once again the church community sought to create premises that served its work for the current age.

It is in the light of this history of meeting the needs of the day that the modernisation scheme Project 21 has come into being
